A How-To Guide For Successful Camping Vacations

Things To Remember When You Go Camping Whether you pitch a tent or roll up in a motor home, choosing to spend your vacation time camping can be a blast! Make sure you plan and prepare for all of the little hazards that living with nature can present, by reading the following tips and adhering to their advice! If you are camping at a public campground, make sure you pack shower shoes for everyone in your party. They are great for those nighttime runs to the bushes when you need to use the restroom, even though not only will they protect your feet from the bacteria on the shower floor. They can be old flip flops, Crocs, or even slip-ons. Did you know that a simple mirror can save your life? If you are end and camping up in a survival situation, a simple hand held mirror can be used to signal for help many miles away. Do not buy the standard glass mirror, many camping supply stores sell mirrors made of Lexan that will float and are practically unbreakable. Get everything you need ready for your meals before you get to your campsite. If you are only camping for a few days, this initial trip to the store should be all that you need to do. Stock up on nonperishable items, too. You don't want you or your family members to be hungry on your trip. Before you start out on that relaxing camping trip, it is essential for your safety to make sure to let someone know you are going. If you are using one, give a friend or neighbor the name of the campsite. Give your contact a general idea of where you are headed and a timeline for your return if you are headed out on a less structured trip. There will be someone to know where to look for you if something goes wrong. If you'd like to prevent mosquito bites, but want to avoid using harsh chemicals, use an orange peel instead. Rub the orange peel over exposed areas of the skin, such as the neck, arms, face and legs to naturally repel mosquitoes. They will smell better, too, even though not only will the orange peels feel better on your skin than traditional repelling chemicals! Figure out your new gear before you go camping. The practice does really help. No one wants to get to the campground, only to find out that they don't know how to use something or set up their own tent. Practice with your new gear before you ever set foot on the campground. On your next fishing trip, go fishing. Fishing is a great way to enjoy yourself while you're out in nature, but it also helps you pack more lightly because you catch your food on the trip instead of having to bring it with you. Before leaving home and you'll have easy fish dinners on your camping trip, learn to de-bone a fish. When it is time for you to go to sleep, it is a good idea to put the coolers that you brought along into your vehicle. Bears have become quite savvy these days and have figured out that these coolers usually carry food items and this will attract them to your campsite. Pitching a tent can be complicated for anyone, but it is especially difficult for beginner campers. Give your tent a test run before you set out to pitch it in your first camp site in the wild. This will assure you can effectively pitch your tent and have everything you need to do so. If you get to the site just before dark, this will help you set up camp in a hurry. Be prepared to handle any emergency that may have and arise a plan in place. There are certain things you'll need to include at certain locations (i.e. a snake bite kit.) However, there some basics you should always have with you. Be sure to do your research and bring along any location-specific items you will need. Pack extra flashlights and batteries. It can get quite dark at night, away from all the city lights. A light source is very important. Bring a few spare flashlights just in case. Make sure that you pack extra batteries as well. A light source is something you do not want to find yourself without. A Frisbee makes for excellent support under paper plates, and can avoid the usual camping spillage and drops! Grab as many of them as you have around your home or yard, or pick up a few at your local dollar-type store. They conveniently stack for easy, space-saving packing and are tremendously helpful with little one's meals. Make sure you secure all sources of food at night when you go to sleep. There are many animals that can frequent campgrounds at night and scavenge your food, especially when left open and unattended for hours. You don't want to wake up to your food scattered everywhere, and you left with a shortage. A great tip for anyone that is going camping is to take plenty of water. In this case, there is absolutely no such thing as too much water. Plan out how much water you will need and then try and at least double the amount just to be on the safe side. Beef jerky and trail mix are great foods to bring on your camping trip. After a long day of outdoor activities, you will often feel too drained of energy to prepare a hot meal, so the availability of nutrient-filled snacks, such as trail mix an beef jerky, can be a real lifesaver. As an added benefit these snacks have a long shelf life, so if you do not eat them while camping you can enjoy them for months to come. You next camping trip can turn out to be a weekend full of relaxation or it can be a nightmare. The difference between a good and a bad trip is all affected by how well you prepare. You are more likely to have fun and enjoy yourself in the woods if you prepare yourself for the wide variety of situations you may encounter. A great tool to take whenever you go camping is duct tape. If you get a cut, Duct tape is a very versatile tool that can be used from anything to mend broken tent poles, to patching up tent holes, all the way to serving as a band aide. Pack your food properly to avoid food poisoning. Bring preserved foods and foods that don't spoil easily. Bring a lot of ice, and don't forget to drain your cooler. Why not take a relaxing camping trip and put some of these tips to use? Camping is a great way to spend some time out in nature and get away from the busy hustle and bustle of the real world.
