Give Yourself To Nature While Camping

A How-To Guide For Successful Camping Vacations People of any age can enjoy the fun and excitement of camping. Many campers have gone before us and learned some tips to make a camping trip more pleasant. By reading through these tips, you are sure to have fun. Bring a plastic garbage bag and put all of you family's dirty laundry in it. This keeps the items from mixing in with your clean clothing. It also makes things convenient for you when you return home. You can simply dump out the bag in your washing machine and begin working on it all immediately. Did you know that a simple mirror can save your life? A simple hand held mirror can be used to signal for help many miles away if you are end and camping up in a survival situation. Do not buy the standard glass mirror, many camping supply stores sell mirrors made of Lexan that will float and are practically unbreakable. If you are interested in camping, and you are new to the activity, then you should never start out alone. It can be quite dangerous if you don't know what you are doing, so it is important to bring along an experienced friend to help you learn the ropes. Give them the opportunity to assist you when you get to the campground if you are traveling with children. They can carry gear, support you as you set up the tent and look for firewood. Not only will it keep them busy and out of trouble, it will be fun for them as well. Always take more water than you think you will use when you go on a camping trip. Many times, people forget how much water is needed. It is used for drinking, washing dishes and even, hands and cooking brushing your teeth. Water is not something you want to be without. Figure out your new gear before you go camping. The practice does really help. No one wants to get to the campground, only to find out that they don't know how to use something or set up their own tent. Before you ever set foot on the campground, practice with your new gear. Know what is available in the area around your campsite. You may get lucky and have beautiful weather the entire time. You may also face inclement weather, too. Have a backup plan in case you need a diversion. If you have kids, but adults need a little entertainment as well, this is particularly crucial! Avoid severe weather when going camping, and pay attention to forecasts. It is horrible trying to pitch a tent in the rain, and not much fun sitting in a tent during a rainstorm. It is equally as disturbing approaching a muddy campsite and trying to make a weekend out of it. It is important to have a flashlight when you camp, but make sure the batteries are fully charged. One way to be sure the batteries don't accidentally drain on the journey is to put them into the flashlight backwards. If the switch is accidentally engaged, they stay charged, that way. Plus, you know where the batteries are. Take along items to use while you are camping in the wild. Pack such things as cards, fishing poles or even plan for a scavenger hunt. You'll need to increase the amount of entertainment items that you pack if the kids are camping with you. Take along a fire extinguisher! You never know when a fire can spread. Being prepared to put it out quickly could save your life, your gear and the woods around you. Find one that is capable of putting out fires of all kinds to be sure you are prepared to extinguish them all. Don't forget to bring back-ups of things like flashlights and batteries. There are going to be moments when you must clearly see certain items when it gets dark. A flashlight can prevent a fall and scare away unwanted wildlife. If you have little ones with you, make sure to pack a flashlight for them, too. Make sure you secure all sources of food at night when you go to sleep. There are many animals that can frequent campgrounds at night and scavenge your food, especially when left open and unattended for hours. You don't want to wake up to your food scattered everywhere, and you left with a shortage. Especially if you live in a hotter climate, you need to make sure you know how to get ice. Ice melts rather fast, and you're going to need more. Sometimes you can buy ice at the campsite, or sometimes at a store, but there are times when ice isn't so close to where you're camping. If your children are with you, establish a daily routine early on. This will help them adjust to their new surroundings and have a good time. Try to stick to a certain bedtime and eat your meals at about the same time each day. Your kids will be happier, and you will be as well. Though it might seem like a no-brainer, do not forget your toilet paper. It will be necessary for you to use the bathroom outside if you are going camping in a place that has no toilets. If you forget the toilet paper, you may be forced to use leaves, some of which could be poison ivy. A great tool to take whenever you go camping is duct tape. If you get a cut, Duct tape is a very versatile tool that can be used from anything to mend broken tent poles, to patching up tent holes, all the way to serving as a band aide. Pack your food properly to avoid food poisoning. Bring preserved foods and foods that don't spoil easily. Bring a lot of ice, and don't forget to drain your cooler. Once you know more about camping, you can really relax and have fun when you head out into nature. The more you know, the more successful your camping trips will be, as with any activity.
